The title “Grüne Krone Bayerns” (Green Crown of Bavaria) is rightfully adorning the Franconian Forest, as a good half of the northern Franconian holiday region is covered by dense forests. Herb and strikingly the beauty of this nature park opens itself to the wanderer, in which also jewels like the medieval Kronach or the Plassenburg can be found. In rapid alternation there are undulating plateaus, gentle mountain ridges and narrow valleys created by the incisive power of rivers and streams.
Castles, ruins and old forges are as much a part of this unspoilt landscape between the Thuringian Forest and the Fichtelgebirge mountains as are their straightforward people.
The Franconian Forest people are closely connected to their forest, as it was the basis of their livelihood in the glass and porcelain industry, rafting and cutting mills. As far as Amsterdam, the raftsmen brought Frankenwaldtannen to the Main and Rhine rivers.
The “Quality Trail Wanderbares Deutschland” starts directly at the end of the Rennsteig. It runs over 520 kilometres through the Franconian Forest, the Upper Main Valley, the Altmühl Valley and the Swabian Alb.
Our tour passes romantic river valleys, deep forests, panoramic mountain ranges, fortified castles with significant history and you will also enjoy the Franconian hospitality, which is not only expressed in the excellent cuisine and the even better beer.
Programme:
- Day 1:
Arrival, possibly dinner, overnight stay. - Day 2:
After breakfast we drive you to the beginning of the Frankenweg – to Untereichenstein. After a nice hike through the Höllental to Naila you can use our sauna and have dinner. - Day 3:
After breakfast you hike to Bischofsmühle or to Elbersreuth and let us pick you up again.
